Leg 40: Sacheonjin-ri Beach Park to Jumunjin Beach

A good night’s sleep in a motel near the beach and it was up to another beautiful day.  It looked like a fine day to just enjoy the walk and not worry about signs.  Fortunately, the next couple of legs showed themselves as pretty much following the coast.  The problems had tended to be when the trail led away from the sea for any length of time.  Then the signage would leave at least a bit to be desired.

The first leg of this day was quite straightforward.  It began with a beach with a fairly calm sea.  And rocks.

Not content with just looking at the rocks just off shore, they went and built a bridge out to them.  I found a lull in the traffic to take a photo of them.  I really don’t understand why it seems that scenic things can’t be left more or less scenic here.  There seems to have to be a way to clutter these places up with people… and their trash.  Sigh!!!

From the beach, the trail wound over a hill inland just a bit and past some historical burial mounds.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t learn much about these ones as the signs only described them as Silla dynasty era burials, which really only means very old to me.  And they were discovered when they were expanding a nearby road.

At the top of the hill there was a nice look back at the coast over a nearby town on this gorgeous day.  It was such a nice day for walking.

Because the top of the hill had such a nice view, that meant it was also a great place for a lighthouse, since it was also visible from far away.  I don’t know why there would be a statue of a mermaid way up there.

Then it was along more of the beach and coast to another rock formation that seemed to have some renown.  There were lots of tour buses coming and going, with large groups of people paddling little kayaks to a rock offshore.  And this formation just below another lighthouse/viewing tower seemed to have some kind of legend to it.  I couldn’t find out though because none of the signs had any English on them.

It was a nice little leg, and quite effortless. It left plenty of time to do another leg before heading back to Seoul and then home.
